Ever Heard Of Kancho?

What is Kancho?

A cousin of mine told me that he's thinking of getting a job in Japan to teach English. I told him to "watch out for your cornhole, bud." I'm not sure he got the office space reference, but the meaning is still the same. Apparently kids in Japan like to stick their fingers in your ass. It's a game. I first read about it here:
A teacher's account
I'm not sure all the stories are still there, but way back when I first read them, they were all hilarious. The whole thing was backed up shortly after by a guy I talked to at a party who had also taught English to young kids in Japan.

"So do they really try and stick their fingers in your ass?"
"Hell yeah dude, that shit was annoying as hell!"

Lulz

good luck cuz....

Brock has reached big boy status

I had to go get him something when I went to pick up some beer for this weekend. I got him some Bacon Strips too, I'm sure he'll love them if he could just leave that bone alone.

Also, part two of 'dogs are awesome':

This is why you don't feed a dog table scraps. Even a tiny 1/4 inch sized slice of steak you were about to put on your steak fajita. BTW, that pile could more than fit his entire bowl of food I gave him at 5:30pm.

Awesome. Dogs are awesome.

Is this what gave me diabetes?

Plastic additive BPA connected to diabetes, heart disease

I'm not sure if everyone has heard, but there has been news about the chemicals leaking out of certain plastic containers, this BPA stuff. Well, I got diabetes, and I used a plastic Nalgene bottle almost every day, not to mention tupperware for my food and whatnot. Could this have helped? I've switched to a Sigg bottle for my water now, but I still have that tupperware. Its probably time to get rid of that. I saw something the other day about what to do with old spaghetti sauce jars, and one of the solutions was to use them for leftovers.

Little Houses Getting More Press

The Next Little Thing from the New York Times. There's a neat audio slide show included on the side bar. Ever since I first saw these I thought that living in one would be a neat experiment, but now I have a dog. He's a handful in my house as it is. And I don't have a truck any more to tow it around, but I suppose with what I could potentially save in Mortgage payments could cover that. Oh I also wouldn't have to worry about it during hurricanes, as I could just drive off ;)

Portal Song Video

This is really cool:

Portal - Still Alive typography from Trickster on Vimeo.

I'm not sure everyone reading this is familiar with the video game "Portal", but this is the song you get to hear after beating the game. It is humorous.

Did Saturday Night Live Get Funny Again??

It seems that way:

My Maine Vacation

It's been a while, and I've been meaning to post these, so I finally decided to bite the bullet and do it. I went up to Maine the third week of August for vacation to see the family, and to bring Katie up to the homeland :) Peaks Island, ME.

I took a ton of pictures, these are just a sampling. Just a sampling, and yet there's still a hell of a lot of them.

Here we are with Portland in the background:

From Maine

Katie standing in front of the 5 story tower. They cemented up the entrance, so we used to climb in that lower window, take the stairs up a flight, then the only way to get to the top was to climb a rope where the spiral staircase used to be. You can't even see the top in this picture. The island is full of old WWII forts like these.
From Maine

Katie sitting on a rock back shore. The majority of the shoreline is rock.
From Maine

Me on the same rock, looking quite regal if I say so myself
From Maine

This is Battery Steele, it housed two 18" guns. They were only fired twice, once with a 1/4 charge for the 2000lb round, and once with a 1/2 charge. The 1/2 charge test fire broke every window on the island. They never had to fire it again.
From Maine

Katie in front of Battery Steele, you can see the name a little there
From Maine

I told her how cold the water is up there, she didn't believe me

Mom and Katie in front of the 5th Maine. It was a civil war regiment.

Katie and mom on the ferry ride back to Portland.
From Maine

My brother Sephie, with one of cousin Jason's dogs, either Abby or Murdoch, both Scotties.

Katies first Maine lobster bake

Sephie and his girlfriend Anna.

Me and Katie backshore back on the island again. If you notice, most of the pictures of the two of us are from the same angle because I'm taking it myself. I'm pretty good at the 'no look'
From Maine

Katie driving Nana's golf cart. Apparently it's a great honor to be able to take the cart, but I had a cute little blonde with me who helped the odds ;)
From Maine

We went to go see Portland Head Light. A very famous lighthouse that is still in service today. It was commissioned by George Washington
From Maine

The grass was very green
From Maine

It had a big light. This is the second largest size lens they make for lighthouses
From Maine

That's the ship they shot the movie Amistad on
From Maine

There used to be an Army base surrounding the lighthouse, they had 12" gun emplacements everywhere, this was one. Between that and the other forts around Casco bay anyone trying to invade Portland was in big trouble.
From Maine

A mansion right by the lighthouse
From Maine

That mansion, it burnt down.

Again
From Maine

More WWII observation posts by the lighthouse, also had 5" guns.

Shopping in Portland
From Maine

We took a duck boat tour. It's one of those old WWII amphibious vehicles.
From Maine

Old observation tower to see what ships were coming into the harbor.
From Maine

Fort Georges. It was actually built around the civil war times I think, but never used
From Maine

This came off one of the ships that accepted the Japanese surrender for WWII
From Maine

More fort
From Maine

Remember what I said about the duck boat? Being amphibious? We're in the water
From Maine

And we're still floating
From Maine

That's the ferry we take from Portland to the Island.
From Maine

The Henry Longfellow's house
From Maine

A statue of Longfellow. It's said he grew the beard because his face was badly burned in a home fire and he wanted to hide the scars
From Maine

The awesome shirt I bought
From Maine

Sephie in his stupid hat, drinking a beer at Rosies.
From Maine

I particularly like the "FLED NY" plate
From Maine

This was taken at a German style beer garden in Portland, it was pretty sweet
From Maine

I happened to catch the duck boat while it was taking other people on a tour. That's it.
From Maine

I just had to take a picture of the amount of meat in this sandwich
From Maine

Katie didn't understand why I needed a reference for the size of the meat, hence the look on her face.
From Maine

The fam had a cookout backshore
From Maine

Sephie throwing rocks. It's what we do on a shore filled with rocks

That should be more than enough for now.

Brock got his stitches out

Brock didn't need the cone any more because he got his stitches out today. So of course the most logical thing to do was to put it on Carroll instead.

Cool Physics Videos

This is a cool set of videos from wired.com:
Here

#1 The Tesla coil one plays some old school nintendo tunes after the first minute or so.
#2 The Mythbusters one is just awesome, you need click the link just for that one.
I'd put #5 in my house if I could.

Well, they're all cool, just check it out.

Mark has a giant baby

We often make jokes about Mark, and his giant baby. Carroll sent me this picture tonight, which, I think, characterizes what we're talking about:

The New Football Season Began and Ended Within 8 Minutes

I didn't even get to see it, but I sure got plenty of text messages about it. About seven and a half minutes into the first quarter of the New England vs Kansas City game Tom Brady was hit in the knee with a helmet. He's out for the season. So much for football this year :(

I was going to put up a post about my trip to Maine, with pictures and everything, but I'm really not in the mood any more.

Brock just lost something

His balls. :(

Poor guy. At least he's taking it well.

About as well as he can I suppose?
